Banbury's England international, Rob Evans, proved too strong for Thames Valley rival Marley Churcher at Newbury – halting him in the third round.

Evans, the 2009 ABA cruiserweight champion, used his extra height from the bell to land precise straight shots then enhanced his repertoire of shots as the bout progressed.

A solid right sent Churcher to the deck during the second, but he lifted himself off the canvas and managed to survive the round.

Evans then imposed two further counts – the first from an unanswered flurry and the other with a penetrating left to the solar plexus – before referee Dave Tew called a halt with 30 seconds left on the clock.

Berinsfield’s Tomas McDonagh faced familiar foe Chris Haines from the host Thames Valley gym for the fourth time and, yet again, the two lightweights produced a contest for the boxing connoisseurs.

After an even opening round, McDonagh started to show more variety in his work with precise head and body combinations.

Haines rallied strongly in the latter stages of this four-round clash, but could not dent McDonagh’s lead and the Berinsfield teenager took a split decision.

Niamh McGucklin, 11, emerged with distinction from her ring baptism before losing by a slim margin to fellow debutant Chloe Gaynor of Swales Gloves ABC.

At Milton Keynes, Jordan Flynn romped to a convincing points win against Sean Bruce from Leicester.

Berinsfield’s 2009 National Schoolboy champion began to impose his authority over his southpaw rival from the start of the second round with precise right hands and left hooks.

Flynn’s precise delivery the votes of all three judges.
