Come rain, wind or shine – Oxford Brookes LTC played non-stop tennis for 24 hours to raise money for Sport Relief.
About 50 club members helped to raise £1,200 for the charity after playing a series of two-hour doubles matches on one court.
The men’s first team started proceedings with an intense opening match, followed by the women’s first team and the men’s second string.
As the evening turned into the night, more courageous players battled it out into the early hours as the pain and tiredness started to kick in!
Four by four, the players participated in this massive doubles match, racking up the sets late in the evening, and throughout the night!
With a mixture of men’s, woman’s and mixed doubles the South of the net beat the North 23-14. in sets Brookes worked closely with their three sponsors – Oxford Sports LTCM Fuzzy Ducks (a popular student organisation) and Premier Tennis, and also raised funds by running a raffle, and selling T-shirts.
Organiser Sam Lutostanski said: “By getting involved in Sport Relief 2010, we are helping to change the world.
“Things we take for granted today, are the same things that people, who are starving, homeless and without a family could only ever dream of.”
Lucy Bush, of the woman’s 2nd team at Oxford Brookes said: “I will remember this forever, as, I’m sure, will my team- mates.
“Also raising money for a cause like this, makes the whole experience much better and more worthwhile!”
