Jordan Gillies led Oxfordshire under 15s to a 67-run victory over Wiltshire as they continued their excellent season in the ECB Under 15 Cup at Great Tew.

oAfter winning the toss, Oxon skipper Jack Taylor had no hesitation in batting first on a belter of a wicket.

However, the Oxon top order offered little resistance to the Wiltshire opening attack, and they soon found themselves struggling at 58-5.

But middle order pair Josh Smith and Gillies set about restoring order, and with Smith playing the anchor role, Gillies went on the attack.

He entertained the crowd with a fantastic 80, 56 of his runs coming in boundaries, while Smith continued his good form with a patient 65.

Contributions down the order from Wasim Mehmood (27) and Chris Brougham (17), including a six off the last ball, saw Oxfordshire close on a formidable 273-9 from their 50 overs.

Oxfordshire's opening bowlers Mitchell Meredith and Mat Woods both picked up wickets in their first overs to leave the visitors deep in trouble at 9-2.

A partnership of 78 between Tom Bullen and Matt Sawyer took Wiltshire to 84-2, before Taylor introduced the spinners to rip through the middle order.

Taylor himself finished with 3-40 from ten overs, while Wasim Mehmood claimed 2-39 from nine.

The huge Oxon total was now well out of reach for Wiltshire at 153-7, and when seamers Mat Purssell and John Forrest picked up a wicket apiece, the visitors closed on 206-9.
