Oxford United right back Damian Batt is hoping for a family Wembley double.
As he and the rest of Chris Wilder’s team prepare hard for Sunday’s Blue Square Premier play-off final against York City, his brother Shaun is eyeing a possible trip to the national stadium with League One Millwall.
The Lions qualified for the play-offs in third place and will face Huddersfield in the semi-finals.
Shaun, 22, has been on loan to Millwall from Peterborough United this season, having played for Posh against the U’s in a pre-season friendly.
Damian, 25, admits having had plenty of enquiries for tickets for the big day, where he’ll have his family cheering him on.
“I’ve had a lot of people asking me for tickets,” he said.
“Most people want free tickets, and you have to tell them ‘no!’ But it’s going to be a great day – family and friends, girlfriend, everyone’s going to love it.
“Both brothers, sister . . . all my family’s coming along.
“He’s had a good year and half, going from non-League (with Fisher Athletic) to hopefully going up.
“Millwall are in the play-offs too and hopefully we can both go to Wembley – Shaun has never played there.”
The right back says everyone in the Oxford camp is looking forward to Sunday, when they will probably have a massive 40,000-plus army cheering them on.
“It’s been a good season and it’s a great prize at the end of it,” said Batt, who is one of the U’s players who has been to Wembley before.
For him, though, the 2007 FA Trophy final was a frustrating occasion.
“I went to Wembley with Stevenage,” he explained.
“I was unlucky that I got injured two weeks beforehand, so I was unhappy not to play. I was out for nine months. Touch wood, it will be nice to play there this time.
“I had to watch from the stands,” he added. “I’m not a good watcher anyway, but watching at Wembley was worse.”
