Oxford Downs captain Danny Lee is urging supporters to help them make the most of home advantage against Bronwydd on Sunday (2).

Downs entertain the Carmarthen-based side at Standlake in the competition's first national round (last 32) after defeating Horspath in the Oxfordshire final.

And Lee is urging the whole county to get behind his side, who he says "are pretty much as strong as we could be".

He said: "In this competition, if you've got home advantage it can prove massive, and we want to make the most of it.

"Hopefully we'll get a good turnout on Sunday and that will give us a great chance.

"We had a lot of people at Horspath for the Oxfordshire final and it would be nice if a few people from around the county came to cheer us on."

With their visitors making a 320-mile round trip, chairman Mike List is also confident.

He said: "Five years ago we got to the last 16 and now we are in the last 32. We were beaten by the team who went on to win it that year, another Welsh side called Ynystawe.

"We have got a good chance and this is a young team, which is exciting as well."

If Downs keep on winning, they will be at home until the semi finals the same round that west Oxfordfordshire rivals Shipton-under-Wych- wood reached last year.

List added: "We are really looking forward to Sunday.

"We are still waiting for news on what their support is likely to be, so we can look after them.

"We just hope that the weather stays good."

Downs lost to Tiddington in Oxfordshire round two, but were reinstated after their opponents realised they had fielded an ineligible player, so maybe luck is on their side.
