Banbury United boss Kevin Brock hopes to make former Oxford City defender Matty Hayward his second summer capture.

Brock said Hayward, who is at Aylesbury United, but trained with Banbury last night, would be a great acquisition.

"He's keen to come to us and we're keen to have him here," said Brock, who has already re-signed striker Howard Forinton.

"Hopefully we can work something out. We did ever so well in all areas of the pitch last season, but I just felt we missed a bit of physical presence and Matty's well over six foot.

"We have a young side and Matty is very experienced. With him and Howard, we would have a good squad."

Meanwhile, midfielder Paul Lamb is recovering after a successful ankle operation.

*Defender Omar Takriti has rejoined newly-promoted Oxford City from Brackley.

Takriti had spells at Witney United and Abingdon United.

Luke Brandon has already signed up for their Southern League Division 1 South & West campaign.

Meanwhile, City face a trip to fellow new boys Abingdon United in the first round of the Errea Cup.

Hellenic champions Didcot Town host Brackley. Ties will be played week starting September 25.

* Southern League chiefs have signed a three-year sponsorship deal with British Gas Business.
