Hugo Barran was the pick of the Oxfordshire Under 12 bowlers, but he couldn't inspire his side to victory as they went down by 21 runs against Gwent at Abercam.
The home side won the toss and batted first, and set about the Oxon attack from the start.
Cam Herring batted beyond his years to top-score with 53, and it took a sharp slip catch from skipper Lloyd Sabin to remove him.
Barran returned fine figures of 3-33 from eight overs, as Gwent closed on 169-9.
Oxon's reply got off to a steady start, but when the Gwent wicket-keeper decided to stand up to all the bowlers, the game changed.
Wickets began to tumble at regular intervals, with four of them coming from stumpings.
Despite the clatter of wickets, however, Oxon stayed up with the run rate, but were eventually bowled out for 148, Charlie Beardall top-scoring with 29.
