Eighteen matchmen turned out for Beehive AC's first Summer League match at Lower Court which fished really well, the first three all topping 100lb of fish, writes Andy Webber.
Kevin Jeacock took first place with 118.5.0, his catch comprising mirror and grass carp, caught on pole and caster.
In second place was Andy Crabb with 114.10.0 of skimmers and carp taken on maggot, followed by Nigel Waters with an all-carp catch worth 113.1.0 on caster.
In the latest Carp League 2006 match fished over at Leamington, the 22 anglers found the going very hard and if you weren't on the fish, you really struggled.
Fishing a pellet rig up in the water, Richard Brain was the clear winner with 80.0.0 of carp.
Dave Hawkins finished with 55.4.0 of carp for second, fishing his pellet bait up in the water and also deep to keep the fish coming.
Rob Guppy used the same tactics and took third place with 52.2.0.
A new star was born last Sunday when Rob Parker walked off with Wallingford Jolly Anglers' Coronation Cup their first match of the season on the Chalmore stretch fished by ten matchman.
Rob fished the groundbait feeder with maggot on the hook to land nine bream up to 6.12.0, plus a tench going 3.12.0, for a winning weight of 50.6.0.
Using the same tactics, Phil Ansell put three bream, a tench, plus bits, on the scales for 25.8.0 and second spot, while third-placed Jeremy Denton followed suit with two bream for 7.8.0.
Over at Panshill, it was 'that man' Dean Bowerman who led the field of 15 home in the latestWitney AS match.
In-form Dean fished the pole at 12m with worm on the hook placed over the chop to tempt 13 carp, the best going 8.12.0 for a total weight of 47.1.0.
Nick Maynard also got into the carp with worm and took second place with 16.14.0, followed by 'Ebby' Smith with 14.5.0 of carp, again all taken on worm.
Littlemore's J Henwood Shield was fished on the Thames at Sandford and normally the first match is a bit of a struggle.
But this time the formbook went out of the window, as all the anglers enjoyed good fishing throughout the match length.
Andy Whittington claimed top spot with four tench and four bream, plus some bits, weighing 28.5.0, all taken on chopped worm.
Matt Ryman used the same tactics and had two bream and one tench for a second-placed 18.8.0, while Ken Franklin opted for the 'wag and mag' and had a good net of roach and hybrids for 14.10.0.
Marston fished the Cherwell Cup on the Cherwell and if it wasn't for the number of punts around, the 12 anglers would have had a good day.
Even so, the fish seemed to respond and Pete Clarke came out tops with 9.15.0 roach and skimmers on pole and maggot.
With 8.6.0 of roach on bread over groundbait, John Perella took second place, while Terry Coombes fished maggot over groundbait for 6.14.0 and third place.
The Thames at Benson did not fish that well for Benson's first Rose Bowl, where nine anglers turned up.
Mick Marriott found six skimmers on the feeder with maggot and then switched to the pole, alternating between maggot and worm, for a top weight 9.1.0.
