A last-place finish was inevitable as Oxford City competed with a severely-depleted team in Southern 1 West of the National Young Athletes League.
Those that made the journey to Kingston in Surrey, performed well, and there were several highlights.
The under 13 girls' pairing of Beth Swords and Jade Walker won their respective strings in the 1200m, with Walker overtaking most of the field on the last lap.
There was a personal best from Ellie Clarke-Jacques which secured her an unexpected second place in the high jump.
The highlight from the under 15 girls competition was a double first in the high jump from Harriette Cooke and Kirsty Parkinson, while Kirsty Warland put in a English Schools qualifying time in the hurdles to secure athlete-of-the-match.
The under 17 women filled most events, despite an injury to Rebecca Cooke.
There was a double first for Hayley Luke and Emily Patrick in the A and B string 300m hurdles as well as a number of other firsts and second places. In the 300m relay, Emily Patrick showed a tremendous burst of speed to haul in a deficit of 30m to take a lead of 25m on her leg. In the under 13 boys competition, there were wins for Andrew Busby in the high jump, Marcus Woodington in the hurdles and Harry Robertson in the 1500m. Under 15 Rhodri Edwards destroyed the opposition in the javelin with a throw of over 41 metres, less than two metres below English Schools qualifying distance.
