Berinsfield ABC’s Naomi Hill has just joined an elite group of less than 30 women across the country.

The 25 year-old mother of one has just gained her ABA Full Coach badge a year after passing her assistant training examination.

Hill had previously boxed herself, but felt she had more to offer as a mentor, rather than an active participant, and embarked on becoming a coach.

And with an increasing female interest in the sport – as a means of keeping fit, learning self-defence techniques as well as competitive boxing – this was the direction she wanted to go.

Now she has added to her list of responsibilities by providing the initial grounding in the noble art for new schoolboy recruits at the gym.

Chief Berinsfield coach Mel Corrigan said: “Naomi epitomises the increasingly active part that women are playing in the sport – female boxing has been added to the 2012 London Olympics.

“And she is just the kind of role model for other girls.

Hill will be in the corner when Berinsfield stage their Hutton Parker-sponsored dinner show at the Rover Club in Cowley next Friday evening.

England schoolboy international Jordan Flynn will be in action against Bury’s Kane Nightingale – another young prospect ranked in the country’s top ten.

A further 15 bouts complete the card with fellow juniors Kieran Flanagan, Adam Smith, Jordan Reilly, Jake Keogh and Liam Joseph all in action.

Recently crowned Home Counties welterweight champion Richard Tyler heads the list of teenage prospects in the senior bouts with Will Healy, Josh Lock and Tomas McDonagh also lacing a glove.

Local rivalry will be very much in evidence when middleweight Brendan Gorman faces Josh Trafford from the Blackbird Leys gym.
