DAVID Pinder sent out the first winner from his Kingston Lisle stables, near Wantage, for almost a year when Danish Monarch sprang a 66-1 shock at Bath yesterday.
Apprentice jockey Chris Cavanagh powered the five-year-old gelding, who was breaking his duck at the 29th attempt, to victory from Eijaaz in the ten-furlong seller.
Pinder addmited: "It is a bit of a surprise, but it would not have been had he not run so poorly on the all-weather the last twice. He must prefer turf."
However, there was a sting in the tail for Cavanagh, who picked up a two-day ban for using his whip with excessive frequency.
