ABINGDON will play in the BB&O Premier Division next season after having their promotion confirmed.
The team were left waiting to learn their fate following their second-place finish in BB&O Division 1 South behind Broadmoor Staff.
With Division 1 North champions Chinnor 3rd replacing their second team in Premier A, runners-up Aylesbury Athletic, a prison side, could have denied Abingdon promotion.
Aylesbury were allowed to play all their games at home last season as they are mostly comprised of inmates.
But they opted to stay down as Premier Division clubs were unlikely to accept this arrangement.
Abingdon secretary Tim Davies said: "I'm delighted for the players and the coaches.
"We will be putting in a lot of hard work throughout the summer in recruiting players to make sure we are equipped for that level."
Abingdon finished three points ahead of Harwell, who were leaders at the turn of the year.
Davies said: "We have been fairly consistent and we came on well in the new year.
"Our second team also picked up after a slow start, which shows our strength in depth."
*PLANS are well under way for Abingdon's traditional sevens tournament on August 20 and Davies said there was only one space left to fill.
