JAMES Cathcart says he has no regrets about leaving Chinnor despite seeing them land the South West 1 title.

The fly half quit Kingsey Road for Reading last summer to further his career, only for them to be relegated from National 3 South and replaced by Chinnor.

But looking back now, Oxfordshire's No 10 still believes he made the right decision.

Cathcart said: "I have had a good season at Reading and I think I have developed as a player so there's no regrets about leaving.

"I have enjoyed playing there and they are a great bunch of guys.

"I was very pleased to see Chinnor go up. They thoroughly deserve it as they have been in the top half of South West 1 for a few years."

He added: "National 3 is a tough league, and they'll find there are no easy games in it."

Cathcart declined to comment when asked whether he would consider rejoining Chinnor now the clubs had swapped leagues.

But the Gosford Hill School PE teacher was happy to speak about Oxfordshire's chances of winning the County Championship Plate.

He said: "To get a win against Hampshire on Saturday was crucial. I think we'll get a lot better next week and build from there.

"There are a few players to come in from Newbury and Henley as well, which can only benefit us.

"I played at Twickenham for Warwickshire so I now how good it feels. It's my goal to get back there."

Cathcart was renowned for his kicking ability during his time at Chinnor and he showed glimpses of that against Hampshire.

But he felt there is more to come.

"I was a little bit rusty on Saturday as I have had a couple of weeks' break," he said.

"I was a bit disappointed my personal game, but it's the team performance that counts."
