Former Oxford Cheetahs star Paul Hurry left his rivals trailing to claim his fourth Barloworld Handling Berks Bonanza solo title at the Grove Farms circuit, Harwell, yesterday.

Hurry, the defending champion and winner in 1995 and 2000, powered home for a comfortable victory from Martin Williams (Newent) and Ipswich's Richard Smith.

The ex-Cheetahs man, from Chart Sutton, Kent, took control of the final after Steve Braidford (Headcorn, Kent) fell on the top bend on the first of the four laps.

However, as he was on the edge of the track, the race was able to continue with the yellow warning flags.

Rob Wilson and Kevin Woodley, also from Headcorn, took victory in the sidecar final following a re-run.

The first race was stopped when Boston's Colin Blackbourn and Paul Whitelam Jnr came to grief on the same bend which had earlier claimed Braidford.

They were hit by Nottingham's Paul Whitelam Snr and Ian Whale, and with their carburettors being pulled off the engine block, the red flags came out.

In the re-run, Wilson and Woodley, deputising for Nicky Owen, who it's believed had picked up an injury, came home clear of Whitelam Snr and Whale.

Rob Bradley and Shaun Simpson (Slingsby) werre third, with Blackbourn and Whitelam Jnr rec- overing to finish fourth.

It was Woodley's second success of the day as he also teamed up with Myles Symmons (Staplehurst, Kent) to take the B sidecar final.

Peter Lloyd, another former Cheetahs rider, and Terry Madley (Morton) finished runners-up for the second successive year.

The solo B final saw Maidstone's Thomas Cooper go one better than last year by claiming victory.

The day passed without any serious injuries.
