DEPLETED Henley completed their National League 2 camapign with a 34-20 defeat away to second-placed Waterloo.
This game was always going to be a tough one for the Hawks, who arrived without three key players, Mitch Burton, their most reliable kicker, Chris Simmons their leading try scoring wing and lock Matt Payne.
With wing Chaska Loubers already crocked they took the field with two scrum halves Mat Britton and Steve Drake on the wings.
During the game they lost James Gaunt, their first choice scrum half, centre Dave Tibbott and skipper James Winterbottom.
Against this background they did well to make Waterloo fight hard for their victory.
Indeed, Hawks scored an excellent try in the first minute through centre Luke Burns.
Waterloo replied with a try by topscorer Neil Kerfoot, converted by Steve Nutt.
However, after he and Barry Reeves had exchanged penalties, Hawks took a 15-10 lead with a deft try by full back Adam Slade, who added the conversion.
Tibbott then scored one of the tries of the season after a mesmerising 60-metre run.
The rest of the game belonged to Waterloo, who scored further tries through Dan Palmer, Kerfoot, Freeman Payne and Nutt.
