Fishing at Farmoor II reservoir has been improving with daily rod averages of more than four fish per person.
Senior fishery warden Paul Doherty said: "Last week saw some of the biggest buzzer hatches I've ever seen at Farmoor with the fish totally preoccupied on these and ignoring most things artificial! Fortunately the last week has seen fishing improve.
"Catch returns either show buzzer or booby as successful fly so take your pick from floating or sinking line depending on your personal preferences! Clive Loveland landed a cracking bag of over-wintered rainbows from the bank, all on booby, with best fish going 3lb 8oz.
"Most of the over-wintered fish are still being caught deep down, which is quite normal for Farmoor until the water warms up.
"Last week's surface temperature was still only 8C compared to 12C this time last year, another sign of the cold spring!"
On Saturday, April 29, the reservoir is hosting the annual England Youth fund raising competition, with entry open to all ages.
Fishing starts at 10am and ends at 5pm followed by a buffet and prize giving hosted by actor and angler Bernard Cribbins in the sailing club. For further info, call the fishery on 01865 863033.
