KINGS LYNN 2 BANBURY UNITED 0
BANBURY had beaten the Linnets twice already this season, but were second best on Saturday with the home side playing some of the best football seen this year.
Kings Lynn's approach play was outstanding throughout, and United did well to limit them to two goals.
The Linnetts took the lead in the 19th minute. Jack Defty saw his shot brilliantly saved by Alan Foster but from the resulting corner, Defty struck the ball home from close range after a goalmouth scramble.
Just 60 seconds later, United had an ideal chance to equalise when Paul Lamb won the ball just outside the penalty area, and passed to Andy Baird on the right.
Baird struck the ball across the face of the goal, where Ollie Stanbridge completely missed his kick from only two feet out.
With Baird substituted for the second-half, Banbury abandoned their long ball approach, and started to play to feet, and their possession percentage went up as a result.
In the 48th minute, they went close when Ady Fuller played a ball into the middle where Matty Gooderick and Neil Lazarus combined before the latter shot just over the bar with home keeper John Higgs well beaten.
Kings Lynn got the all-important second goal in the 74th minute. Another corner from the left was headed powerfully home by Defty at the far post. Foster got his hand to it but could not prevent the Linnets putting the result beyond doubt.
Banbury didn't play badly, but Kings Lynn would have beaten anyone on this showing.
