Witney beat Morris Motors 2-1 to increase their lead at the top of Oxford & District League Division 1 to four points.

Despite losing the opening game when Doug Baker (+60) overran Terry Cook (+30) 200-88, Witney hit back to take the next two.

Chris Warren (+100) made a 20 break in beating Roger Tomlin (+50) 150-91, and then Gavin Wright (+20) had runs of 27, 28 and 29 to overtake Bob Hayward (+60) 200-159.

In Division 2, Headington Conservative Club A increa- sed their lead over Ashton to six points and also look the likely champions.

HCC A inflicted a 3-0 defeat on Thame A.

Tony Palmer (+100) defeated Mark Syrett (+60) 150-88, Geoff Barratt (+100) got the better of Paul Evans (+40) 200-178, and then John Williams saw off the promising Mark Boyson (+100) 150-123.

Ashton sprang a surprise 2-1 win over County A .

Peter Fenn (+80) inflicted a rare defeat on Richard Tatton (-100) by 200-28.

Keith Maskens (+60) made it 2-0 to Ashton when he beat James Thorpe 200-137.

But County A got a vital point when Lewis Bland (+100) took care of Terry Chambers (-10) 200-66.

Cowley Conservative Club ran out 2-1 winners over Fieldside.

Paul Robinson (-20) pipped Dick Hashman (-20) 200-184 to give Fieldside the lead.

Arthur Coakley (+90), of Cowley Conservative Club, came from behind to snatch a dramatic 150-149 win over Norman Woodcock (+70).

Woodcock just needed to score to take victory, but missed, and Coakley got the required seven points for the win.

In the decider, Keith Pearce (+60) brushed aside Fieldside's Bob Chivers (-40) 200-107.
