Neil Webb, the former Reading, Nottingham Forest and England midfielder, is set to make his Southern League Division 1 West debut when Thame United entertain Dunstable at their temporary Aylesbury home tonight.
Joint boss Richard Searl persuaded the ex-Manchester United star to sign for the basement boys.
"I spoke to him on Monday night and he said he was really looking forward to playing again," said Searl.
"We're hoping that it will get a few people along tonight because we need all the help we can get.
"We put a message out on the Radio Five Live's 606 programme on Saturday. Everyone is looking forward to it.
"We're a young team and we're hoping Neil can be a voice on the pitch because it's sometimes difficult trying to get your point across to the players from the other side of the pitch.
"We're hoping Neil can guide the youngsters."
Thame are without skipper Robbie Eason who serves a one-match ban for being sent off in the Oxfordshire Senior Cup semi-final against Banbury United.
Nik and Adam Rhodes, plus Anthony Dawson are back, while Dave Tregurtha should be available after returning from holiday.
Thame Utd: from Searl, Way, Hocking, Tregurtha, Webb, Bradley, Connelly, Raja, Fisher, Moore, Hamilton, Groves, Hopkins, Morgan, Harman, A Rhodes, N Rhodes, Dawson, Tregurtha.
