BRIAN Field beat Colin Cutler in a dramatic final to lift the Ted Allsop Over 50s Handicap trophy in the Gentworks Oxford & District Snooker League, writes DAVID WHITE.

Field won the first frame 55-33 and seemed set to clinch the title in the second frame, when his opponent needed a snooker, with blue, pink and black remaining.

Cutler laid a snooker on the blue, which Field failed to negotiate, to snatch it 63-60.

Cutler established a healthy lead in the decider, but Field whittled it back to trail 47-44 with only the black left.

Safety play ensued before Field doubled the black the length of the table for victory.

In the semi-finals, John Williams, who had defeated eight-times winner Mick Bennett in the last eight, lost to Cutler 2-1, while Field won two frames on the black against Peter Fenn.
