Abingdon welterweight Richard Gregory claimed the best boxer of the night trophy – a magnificent lead crystal punchbowl – for a superb comeback in Blackbird Leys ABC’s dinner show at Oxford Centre.
Well adrift of Aylesbury rival Alex Taylor at halfway, Gregory dug deep to win a bout that looked well beyond his grasp.
Gregory’s jab started to scythe through the guard and he followed up with precise hooks and uppercuts.
And he reinforced his authority by imposing a standing count over Taylor with a cluster of shots in the final minute before collecting a unanimous decision.
Fellow Abingdon welterweight Paul Sadler battled bravely but lost to South Oxhey’s Michael Courtney.
Berinsfield lightweight Tomas McDonagh edged a close contest in his third bout against Thames Valley’s Chris Haines – each had claimed a win from their previous encounters.
Lightweight Michael Gibson, the sole member of the host gym in action, looked to add to his debut win.
But he left himself exposed to some precise hooks from Hanwell rival Lee Grayson and could not argue when the bout was ended by in the first round.
Windrush Valley schoolboy John Anderson lacked the height to match Camberley’s Nayib Rahmen and lost on points.
