Oxford Harlequins wing Martin Nutt will attempt to climb to Everest Base Camp for a cancer charity.
Nutt is planning the feat for October as the culmination of a series of events to support CLIC Sargent.
Before that, he is organising an overseas versus UK players rugby match and a golf day at The Wychwood, but these events will be simple by comparison.
Nutt said: “In October, I am participating in a most gruelling challenge – I am going to attempt to climb to Everest Base Camp.
“Prior to the attempt I will undertake six months of intensive physical training to enable me reach the camp – this is located at 5,545m.
“Everest at 8,848m is the highest peak in the Himalayas, so base camp is a significant way up what is the world’s tallest mountain.
“So for a complete novice this will be a considerable feat in itself.”
Nutt is aiming to raise £6,000 for the charity and looking for local businesses to get involved.
The rugby match takes place on May 8 and the golf tournament on June 11.
