Henley Hawks were pipped 14-10 by Clifton in a tight clash at Dry Leas.
A try from wing Rob Viol gave Clifton the lead after two minutes, with former Henley fly half Barry Reeves converting.
Hawks fly half Wil Fulton reduced the arrears with a tenth-minute penalty after visiting No 8 John Levis was sin-binned.
Henley led on 27 minutes after a try from scrum half James Gaunt, converted by Fulton.
Hawks lock Steve Green was yellow-carded just after the break, which proved crucial.
Clifton soon scored what proved the winning try through flanker Dean Taylor-Menzies, converted by Reeves.
