Southern Counties North Witney's title hopes received a double boost after their 30-5 victory at Windsor and Amersham & Chiltern’s defeat at Swindon.

The results saw Witney regain top spot on points difference with a game in hand.

Windsor had inflicted Witney’s only league defeat so far and they started strongly, but a crunching tackle from skipper James Lamb fired Witney up.

Lewis Collins was bundled into touch in the aftermath of James Lamb’s big hit, while full back Ed Mitchem’s penalty gave Witney the lead.

Chances came and went before Mitchem added a second penalty.

Aaron Lambourne’s run provided the platform for Witney’s opening try from centre George Bibby, converted by Mitchem.

Witney led 13-0 at the break, but it was soon 20-0 after Collins pounced on a loose ball and Mitchem converted.

Windsor hit back with a try out wide, but scrum half Gareth Campbell fed centre James Lamb to go over from a tapped penalty.

Bibby crossed in the corner for his second and Witney now end their campaign with three home games.

Grove edged out Chipping Norton 5-0 at Cane Lane thanks to a try from captain Ben Nicholl.

Few chances were created in a tight clash, while rival fly-halves Roger Sevier (Grove) and Adam Smith both missed penalty attempts.

Just before half-time, a fantastic break from flanker Guy Nicholl created an overlap, with his brother and No 8 Ben on hand to apply the finishing touch.

Chippy felt Nicholl had gone in touch before grounding the ball.

After the break, Grove scrum half Nick Hayes was recalled having broken through with Nick Sevier and Gareth Hudson in support, only for his side to be awarded a scrum.

Chippy finished strongly and felt they were twice denied tries by an unsighted referee.

Bicester slipped to a 34-10 defeat at home to Aylesbury.

Wing Richard Few scored Aylesbury’s opening try on three minutes, but Bicester hit back with a penalty from Steve Risbridger.

Bicester outside centre Adam Spencer and Aylesbury No 12 John Burgess were sin-binned for fighting.

Few and centre Liam B’Almeida added tries for the visitors before the break, full back Gary Horne converting both.

Bicester replacement Rob Thurlow was yellow-carded shortly after the break and hooker Will Morris twice saved tries.

Aylesbury scrum half Adam Moore darted over to make it 24-3.

Bicester fly half Jak Cluness ran in an interception try, which inside centre Dan Spencer converted.

Visiting flanker Matt Neil scored their final try, with Horne converting and adding a penalty after Dan Spencer was sin-binned.
