Abingdon Utd 4 (McCalmon 9, Mills 15, 56, 89)
Andover 1 (Swayne 6)
John Mills celebrated his 20th birthday with a hat-trick as Abingdon got back to winning ways in Division 1 South & West at Northcourt Road.
It took the striker’s tally to the season to 12 goals.
Abingdon were looking to end a winless run of seven matches, but it was looking grim for Andy Slater’s outfit early on when Bobby Swayne slotted in following hesitancy in defence.
But to their credit, the home side, who had conceded 12 goals in their last two games, didn’t give up and they were level when Julian McCalmon seized on a dangerous cross into the area from John Gardner before smashing home past the keeper.
And it got better for Abingdon when Mills slid the ball under the keeper Dave Hook following some good inter play involving McCalmon and Ryan Curtin which ended in a defence-spitting pass for Mills.
After the break, Mills grabbed his second while he was still lying on the ground after his initial shot had been blocked by a combination of the keeper and a defender.
But there was to be no denying Mills and with a minute to go, he headed home to complete his hat-trick.
Abingdon Utd: Warrell, Brown, Weedon, Organ, Franklin, McCalmon, Gardner, Melledew, Mills, Beechers (Elkins), Curtin. Subs not used: Carnell, Hunt, Haysham, Gordon.
