Oxford United’s youth team chalked up a superb 3-1 win at top-of-the-table Swindon Town last Saturday.

Les Taylor’s team have been in fine form lately with a seven-game unbeaten run – and 23 goals scored in that time – before losing 1-0 to Swansea.

But they bounced back brilliantly from that defeat in Wales, going three up with goals from Sam Parrish, Henry Owen and Connor McDonagh.

They are now up to third in the Football League Youth Alliance’s south-west Conference before tomorrow’s clash with Yeovil.

Unlike the first team, who for a team at the top of the table, have not been that great from set pieces this season, the youth team scored twice from set plays.

Taylor said: “It was thanks to good delivery and our two centre halves, Sam and Henry, attacking the ball. Both of them have a good habit of scoring goals from the back.”

l WHILE Oxford-based Malcolm Crosby is settling into his role as assistant to Ian Sampson at Northampton Town, another ex-U’s manager, Brian Horton, has left Hull City following Phil Brown’s sacking.
