Banbury Bulls player-coach Grant Holmes hailed his side’s resilience after they beat Huntingdon & District with 14 men.

Bulls held on to defeat Huntingdon 11-7, despite having Andrew Gilbert red-carded.

Banbury now need five points from their remaining three matches to be sure of the Midlands 2 East South title.

Holmes said: “I was very pleased with the response of the guys once we were reduced to 14 men.

“It couldn’t have happened in a worse position, just ten metres from our own line from which we immediately conceded the try.

“However we dug deep and went straight back at them and struck back immediately.”

He added: “Ultimately at this stage of the season for us it’s all about winning and we achieved our objective, just not in the style we had hoped for.”
