With leaders Wycombe surprisingly losing, Banbury gave themselves a lifeline in their hunt for promotion from Women's South Clubs’ Division 3A with a 2-0 win at City of Oxford.
A slick move by Vicky Page and Ann Glover was coolly finished off by Tash Nunneley.
In the second half, City forced a barrage of short corners, but solid defending from Lara Wilkinson, experienced Liz McVey and Becky Atkins, 15, kept them at bay.
Page then pounced again to double Banbury’s lead.
But the next day, Banbury went down 3-0 at Staines 2nd.
Rover Oxford were beaten 4-0 at Hampstead & Westminster in Division 1, despite some calm defensive play from Lucy Eddowes and Katie Cox.
Oxford Hawks were beaten 1-0 at Southampton after two defensive injuries in two minutes left them exposed.
Evelyn Hargreaves made some fantastic saves.
Kim Johnson’s goal gave Hawks 2nd a 1-0 win over Staines 2nd in Division 3A.
West Witney beat Teddington 2nd 2-1 with Anna Kirk getting both goals, including a deflected late winner.
Rover Oxford 2nd’s two matches in Trysports 3 Counties League Premier 1 produced no fewer than 16 goals!
They lost 4-3 to Oxford University 2nd, with Lyn Cockshott, Lydia Farrell and Bron Jones on target.
And the following day, they lost 5-4 to Milton Keynes after being 4-1 up at half-time, then losing captain Cockshott to injury. Goals came from Cockshott (3) and Becky Hibbert.
