Halesowen Tn 0, Banbury Utd 2

BANBURY United ended the long unbeaten run of Halesowen Town with a fine victory in the Premier Division on Saturday.

Billy Jeffrey’s men were the last team to defeat Halesowen back in October, and they produced an excellent display at The Grove.

Nabil Shariff went close to opening the scoring after only ten minutes when his shot from just inside the box came back off a post, while Marvin Martin’s rebound effort was turned around the post by Halesowen keeper Nick Bussey.

Banbury deservedly went in front on the half-hour when David Stone went on a fine solo run that took him into the box.

Stone jinked between two defenders, before firing home a fierce left-foot shot to give Bussey no chance.

The visitors finished the first half strongly, and continued their dominance after the break.

And Banbury deservedly doubled their lead when Shariff won the ball five yards outside the penalty area, before firing an unstoppable right-foot shot home from 15 yards.

Joe Coleman went close to wrapping up the points in the dying moments, but his shot flew just over the bar.

Banbury Utd: Scott, Redknap, Ashton, Milner, Learoyd, Haisley, Coleman, Stanbridge, Stone, Shariff, Martin. Subs not used Foster, Benjamin, Hilliard, Taylor, Murrell.

Attendance: 435.
