Zamaretto Southern League
Didcot Tn 1, Bashley 1
DIDCOT had to settle for a point against high-flying Bashley, but produced an excellent performance at Loop Meadow in the Premier Division.
The home side started purposefully, and were quickly in front.
Michael Bartley fed Ian Sampson, and the young winger delivered an inch-perfect cross for James Mortimer-Jones, whose header looped over Bashley keeper David Elm.
Didcot keeper Matt Trott had to make a couple of smart saves from Mark Gamble and Joe Maxwell, but Didcot gave as good as they got.
Philip John wasted a good chance in a one-on-one with Elm, firing wide.
Slick passing unlocked the visitors’ defence again as Michael Alexis, John and Michael Hopkins combined to send Mortimer-Jones through on goal.
A one-two with Jamie Heapy ended with Mortimer-Jones seeing his effort hacked off the line.
Bartley saw a header hit the underside of the bar, while Alex Stanley directed another just wide.
Despite Didcot’s dominance, Bashley created chances as well, and they levelled nine minutes from time when Max Cream’s ball into the box was spilt by Trott into the path of Gamble, who slammed the ball home.
Cream then crashed a volley just wide, and in the end, Didcot were left hanging on for a draw, but more displays like this will surely see them to Premier Division survival.
Didcot Tn: Trott, Sampson, Hopkins, Williams, Brown (Peirson 77), Stanley, Mortimer-Jones, Alexis, Bartley, John, Heapy.
Attendance: 170.
