Zamaretto Southern League
Uxbridge 5, Abingdon Utd 1
ABINGDON United’s poor run continued as they crashed to defeat in Division 1 South & West.
The home side went in front when Ryan O’Toole was caught from behind by Ben Weedon in the box, picking himself up to slot home the resulting penalty.
Dave Stevens doubled the home side’s advantage when he slamed home a free-kick from 20 yards.
Uxbridge broke clear again on the half-hour, Stevens seeing his header hit the top of the bar and bounce over.
At the other end, Julian McCalmon set up Tom Melledew, but his strike from 30 yards went over the bar.
In the second half, Lee Tunnel forced Matthew Hutton into a smart save as he parried a fierce drive.
Ryan Curtin reduced the arrears when he curled in a free-kick.
Abingdon were now dominating, but against the run of play, Uxbridge restored their two-goal lead as Max Howell headed into the net from a corner.
Tunnel put the game beyond Abingdon ten minutes later, threading a shot underneath the diving Hutton.
And it was 5-1 in stoppage time as Wayne Carter headed in a low free-kick.
