SUNDAY is the last day of the 2009-10 river fishing season, so those anglers who observe the close season can put their gear away and have a 12-week break.
I have renewed my membership to CEMEX, who control the Kennet at Burghfield, and also the Birmingham Angling Association which lets me fish the Warwickshire Avon and Severn, so I am ready for June 16 when the new campaign begins.
I will still be doing some fishing, however, as I have joined Farmoor Flyfishing Club so I can fish their Darlow water, and I shall also be driving down to Marsh Farm in Godalming to try and catch some crucian carp.
A major feature of last season’s fishing was the unreliable weather. As a shift worker, I like to have some idea what the weather is doing, so I can make plans.
Last summer we were told that it would be very hot – barbecue weather – which never arrived, while last winter was the coldest for over 30 years.
Now the Met Office have decided not to give seasonal forecasts any more and instead they are going to provide monthly forecasts.
They say that the general public would prefer a monthly forecast as they are more useful. Personally, I’d prefer a weekly forecast, which hopefully, would be more accurate.
