Oxford City Stars had two reasons to celebrate following two English National League Division 1 South victories over the weekend.
On Sunday, they fought back to beat already-relegated Peterborough Islanders 10-4, having crushed Milton Key-nes Thunder 9-1 the previous day.
Stars, who were without Dean Francis, Dax Hedge, Joe Edwards and Josh Oliver, but included talented youngster Mike Whillock, suffered a shock on 11 minutes when Steve Maile fired Peterborough ahead, before Kieren De’ath doubled their lead.
That woke Oxford up, with goals from Darren Elliott, Andrew Shurmer and Paul Gore seeing them take a 3-2 lead.
Stars extended their lead in the second period, with Whillock scoring his first goal for the senior team, before Shannon Taylor and Ken Forshee made it 6-2.
Peterborough didn’t throw in the towel with Maile completing his hat-trick with a double to reduce the arrears before the break.
In the final period, Andy Cox, Taylor, Whillock and finally Richard Wojciak wrapped up the scoring for Stars.
In Saturday’s game, strikes from Josh Oliver and the second from his older brother Nick, saw Stars ease into a 2-0 lead, while at the other end, James Skaife in the Oxford net, did make a number of good stops.
Although Milton Keynes pulled one back through Tom Davis less than a minute into the second period, Darren Elliott restored the hosts’ two-goal advantage.
Cox and Elliott, with his second, scored before the end of the period.
In the final period, goals from Alan Green (2), Taylor and Elliott saw Stars wrap up a super show.
