Will Fulton kicked 14 points as Henley Hawks secured an impressive 19-19 draw at home to promotion-chasing Ealing.
James Gaunt’s first game as captain began badly, with Phil Chesters’s spectacular finish giving Ealing a third-minute lead, but it was short-lived.
Henley lock Dave Clements was driven over for Fulton to convert just four minutes later. Fulton soon added a penalty for a 10-5 lead.
Ealing hooker Jon Moyce burst through to equalise with their second try, converted by fly half Ben Ward, but Hawks felt referee Charles Samson blocked their cover tackling.
Henley dominated the rest of the first half territorially, with No 8 Matt Payne to the fore, but led by just a single point thanks to another Fulton penalty.
Ward sold an outrageous dummy to run in from 35 metres and convert his own try, but his kicking was not always on song.
Hawks regained control, helped by the sin-binning of Ealing’s replacement flanker David Essien.
Two more Fulton penalties completed the scoring, while the same player came close to creating a winning try.
