Abingdon Utd 1 (Franklin 90)
Cinderford Tn 1 (O’Connor 56)
A superb lob in the ninth minute of injury time from central defender Tom Franklin gave Abingdon United a dramatic point in their Division 1 South & West clash at Northcourt Road on Saturday.
Franklin stayed up front in a last throw of the dice. And seeing visiting keeper Ben John off his line, he went for the lob and judged it to perfection.
Struggling Cinderford had taken the lead in the 56th minute when Lee O’Connor had time to fire beyond home keeper Jon Beames and into the far side of the goal.
Beames suffered a knee injury, and was unable to take goal kicks. But he made some fine saves on one leg to keep Abingdon in the game until that dramatic climax,
Abingdon Utd: Beames, Elkins, Weedon, Organ, Franklin, McCalmon, Haysham, Melledew, Mills, Curtin, Dobson (Hunt 78). Subs not used: Beechers, Brown, Christodolou, McMahon.
Attendance: 63.
