Oxford City 1 (Steele 78)
Leamington 1 (Corbett 59)
Lee Steele hit a late equaliser as Oxford City were forced to settle for a point against Leamington in the Premier Division (Zamaretto Southern league) at Court Place Farm on Saturday.
Steele battled well to win possession from an Andy Ballard long throw in the 78th minute, before touching the ball under Leamington keeper Chris Kiely. Despite Steele’s leveller, City were left to rue the two points that slipped away.
Leamington had the first attempt on goal when James Husband’s shot flicked the fingertips of keeper Jon-athan North before scraping the bar.
Steele then flashed a shot across the Leamington goal, before James Faulkner, in the first game of his third spell at City, saw his attempt on goal saved by Kiely.
Mark Janes was the next to go close for City when his snapshot rebounded off a post.
Faulkner then clipped the Leamington bar with a header from a Steve Davis corner.
City continued to look the more likely to score after the break only to fall behind in the 59th minute.
A swift break saw Luke Corbett race clear before drawing North and shooting home.
But City kept up the pressure and were rewarded by Steele’s leveller.
