Brackley Tn 2 (Storey 15, Mackey 80)
Didcot Tn 2 (Alexis 34, John 60)
Goalkeeper Matt Trott was the hero as Didcot Town claimed a vital Premier Division point against second-placed Brackley Town at St James’ Park on Saturday.
In a frantic finale, Trott pulled of a number of point blank saves to keep the home side at bay.
Owen Storey and Ben Mackey, in particular, were left scratching their heads as Trott pulled of two world-class stops to deny them a winner.
After a slow start from both teams, Storey had given the hosts a 15th-minute lead with a header at the far post.
Michael Alexis and Mark Draycott went close to beating Brackley keeper Paul Walker, before Didcot grabbed a deserved equaliser ten minutes before the break.
Michael Bartley’s persistence led to Draycott striking a shot across goal where Alexis was on hand to bundle the ball over the goalline.
Didcot edged in front in the 59th minute when Jordan Tabor’s cross into the box was headed past Walker by Phil John. Unfortunately for the visitors, Tabor and defender Martin Brown were unable to finish the game through injury, and their exit from the game spurred the home side forward.
Brackley were duly rewarded in the 80th minute when Mackey calmly fired home past keeper Matt Trott to put the hosts level.
Didcot Tn: Trott, Sampson, Tabor (Hop-kins 74), Heapy, Brown (Costello 67), Stanley, John, Alexis (M Williams 80), Bartley, Draycott.
Attendance: 251.
