As well as selecting a team, the panel were asked for the outstanding memory of their time with Oxford.
For Ray Tapper and David Bagnall, it had to be playing against London Welsh in the John Player Cup at Old Deer Park in 1971.
“They had six or seven British Lions and 11 Welsh internationals,” said Tapper.
“They were considered the best club side in the world. We lost 28-12, but actually won the second half.
“Not only that, we had two tries disallowed.”
Bagnall added: “I was captain that year. That was the proudest moment of my rugby career, standing up there at the after-match dinner.
“Oxford were also the first English side to play in Wales on a Sunday when we faced Pontypool in 1974.”
Richard Tyrrell recalled being drafted in at hooker to face Oxford University at Iffley Road five weeks before the 1983 Varsity Match.
“Hugo MacNeill was full back for them and we changed in the old pavilion,” said Tyrrell.
“We lost 24-12, but I took two balls against the head in the second half.”
Ron Salter said: “My personal memory was scoring two tries against Nuneaton when we won 6-0 on a very foggy and rainy day.
“It was three points for a win then.”
