National 3 South West Oxford Harlequins scored with the final play to defeat Exmouth 17-10 – the second time their opponents have suffered that fate this season.
A late penalty gave Quins a 16-13 win at Exmouth in October and this time flanker Ryan Newman pounced for a try after fly half Jeff Stewart’s penalty fell short.
Full back Richard Caddy had scored Exmouth’s opening try in the 11th minute .
Caddy converted this and added a penalty, but Quins gathered momentum despite Newman being yellow-carded.
From a maul on the touchline, No 8 Jason Welburn broke out and ran 20 metres to score, Stewart converting.
The introduction of wing Grant Ricker, lock Alan Purchase and prop Simon Chadbone galvanised Quins.
Stewart’s penalty made it 10-10 on 68 minutes.
Newman’s quick thinking sealed it, Stewart converting.
Chinnor were edged out 12-10 in a tight contest at Weston-super-Mare, four penalties from fly half Glenn Dickson doing the damage.
Fly half James Cathcart put Chinnor ahead with a third-minute penalty, while two successful Dickson kicks made it 6-3.
Chinnor led 10-6 at the break, with Cathcart converting a try from scrum half Toby Prescott, but two more Dickson penalties saw Weston edge it in the second half.
