Chris Wilder said every aspect of his team’s game was spot on, making it a nigh-on perfect away display, writes Jon Murray.
“You prove things by your actions, and we showed we’re getting back on our feet,” Oxford United’s manager said.
“It was difficult to pass and move the ball, and I thought the whole game, every aspect of our play was good.
“We competed, won second ball, we were enthusiastic, and when we had the chances to play, in difficult conditions, we did.
“We created plenty of chances and scored good goals.”
Wilder’s decision to drop Mark Creighton for Rhys Day was a big call, but Day hardly put a foot wrong.
“Mark Creighton’s attitude has been first class,” Wilder said.
“He’s obviously disappointed, they’re all disappointed when they get left out, but I’ve said, we’ve got 20 players here that we have till the end of the season and they’ll all play a massive part.
“He could easily have sulked. It was a decision to be made by myself, and I’ve had to make difficult decisions over the past three or four weeks.
“Some have raised a few eyebrows yet again, and caused a bit of discussion, but the support today was absolutely first class.
“You sensed it from the minute you walked into the ground, the positivity of the supporters that they gave to the players, and the players repaid that to the fantastic support.”
Grays look relegation certainties.
Boss Julian Dicks said: “When you let in a goal seconds after half-time it kills you.
“Again it’s people not doing their job properly. For me there’s not enough quality in the squad and in the second half they did not perform.”
