Oxford United manager Chris Wilder is mulling over whether Rhys Day, Sam Deering and Jack Midson have done enough to win places in the team at Grays on Saturday after strong performances in midweek.
Day could take over from Mark Creighton at centre half, or come in at right back, although Damian Batt’s one-game ban for his red card against Tamworth has been completed, and Batt will be desperate to do well at his old club.
Midson’s two goals in the 2-2 draw at Brentford Reserves have enhanced his chances of a recall, and Deering too can add something different, whether he plays wide right, or just behind the central striker.
Wilder said: “I want people to force themselves into my thinking with their performances.
“I want players that want to play, and play a part in what’s going off and play in the big games, and say I want to show what I can do, and I’m delighted with that.”
Grays have released nine players and signed six in the past few days!
Among those they have signed are ex-U’s midfielder Alex Rhodes, former United striker Jamie Guy and Andrea Zola, the son of Chelsea legend and West Ham boss Gianfranco.
Julian Dicks has totally changed the look of his team, and Wilder admitted: “I haven’t got a clue who they're going to be playing!
“But I think it’s a day when we’ve got to make sure we take care of ourselves, that we get on the front foot, are nice and positive, and get after the opposition.”
