Lee Steele scored both goals as Oxford City saw off Hednesford Town 2-0 in the Zamaretto Southern League Premier Division tonight.
The striker netted in each half as City showed no signs of rustiness after the long lay-off.
City keeper Will Puddy saved well from Tyrone Barnett before they took the lead on 24 minutes.
Hednesford only half cleared a cross from David Perpetuini and Steele slotted home.
City’s Andy Gunn had a header well saved at the start of the second half.
Steele’s second came on 65 minutes as Puddy hit a long free-kick and the forward showed his professionalism to round the keeper and score.
Banbury United, who gave a debut to James Baldwin, lost 3-0 at home to league leaders Farnborough.
Daryl McMahon put Farnborough ahead with a 23rd-minute free kick after Nathan Haisley fouled Bradley Bubb.
Kezie Ibie bagged their second on the rebound five minutes later following a fine save from Joe Murrell.
Banbury’s Declan Benjamin twice went close with free- kicks and Jason Taylor’s shot was deflected wide by teammate David Stone.
But substitute Bobby Hopkinson’s 30-yard screamer sealed it on 88 minutes.
