Rileys will be packed to the rafters on Tuesday night as world champion Phil Taylor officially opens their new Darts Zone.

Around 200 darts fans are expected to be at the club, situated on Between Towns Road, Cowley, to welcome 15-time champion Taylor to do the honours at the invitation-only event.

His first match on the night will be against Oxford Mail competition winner Daniel Jones – the name pulled out of the hat after correctly naming Simon Whitlock as the person Taylor beat to win this year’s final.

Taylor will then take on Oxford Mail sports editor Mark Edwards, before turning his attention to face more accomplished players throughout the night.

A series of competitions have also been held throughout Oxon with the prize a game against Taylor.

The winners include Paul Oakley (Chequers), who took a 32-man tournament at Rileys, and Dave Presley (A1 Club), who triumphed in a charity competition at the club which raised £182 for Help The Heroes.

Also in line to face Taylor are Paddy Fox, who won a tournament at the Original Swan, and Aaron Stevens, who triumphed in an Oxford & District Darts Association event.
