The Angel’s Steve Clark achieved the rare feat of a 170 checkout in the 6-3 defeat by the Original Swan in Premier/Section 1.
Clark took out the maximum finish with a brace of triple 20s and a bullseye in his match against Nick Cobb.
It’s the first 170 finish in the league this year – and just one of a handful in the last 30 years.
However, Clark’s heroics couldn’t save the Angel from defeat.
And the outcome was the same in the return fixture, with Original Swan running out 5-4 winners.
Tony Allday (180) beat Kit Young (180) to give Original Swan the lead, only for Jason Cattermole to level with victory over Simon Smith.
Nick Cobbs restored the Original Swan’s lead by defeating Adrian Coggins.
But once again the Angel drew level when Michael Prpa beat Peter Rouse.
However, the Original Swan made it 4-2 with wins from Jon Jukes, who smacked the lipstick for a maximum and also reeled off a brilliant 147 checkout in his victory, and Tim Tricker, who also hit a 180.
The Angel took the pairs 2-1, but it wasn’t enough to prevent Original Swan coming out on top.
Premier Section pacesetters Shears produced a stunning performance to inflict the heaviest ever defeat on College Oak with a 9-0 thrashing.
In a high-scoring affair, there were six maximum 180s.
Three Horseshoes’ Steve Couling hit a brace of 180s in a 5-4 defeat at home to Section 3 leaders Kidlington Green Social Club.
His superb scoring and a win from Paul Bustin saw Three Horseshoes level the match at 2-2 after Shane Cooper (180) and Mark Burns had given Kidlington Green the early advantage.
Steve Baker then beat Nigel Hodge to give Kidlington Green the edge, but a fine win from Les Bond saw Three Horseshoes level it up.
However, Kidlington Green took the pairs 2-1 to secure victory.
