Ashton A booked their place in the last four of the Oxford & District League’s Atox Cup with a 4-0 victory at Thame in one of only three matches to survive the freezing weather conditions, writes DICK HASHMAN.
Ashton’s Peter Fenn (+20) won both his games against Thame’s Paul Evans (scratch) 75-41, 75-32, making a break of 26 in his second game.
John Street (+20) then crushed Brendon Ensoll (+20) 75-38, while Terry Chambers (scratch) walloped Nigel Bossom (scratch) 75-22, making breaks of 22 and 24.
With an unassailable lead, the last two games were not played.
In the other match that survived, New Club saw off Riley A 4-2.
Alan Mander (+20) beat Gary Bough (+20) 75-45, 75-52 to put New Club in charge.
Dave White (+20) then defeated Matthew Challen 75-50, 75-50 to make it 4-0.
Alan King (scratch) pulled a point back for Riley with a 75-44 win over Malcolm Bough (scratch).
With the match already won, Riley decided to concede the final game.
In league action, Headington Conservative Club came away from Eynsham with a 2-1 victory in Division 2.
Dean Watson (+50) gave Eynsham the lead with a 150-122 win against Terry Walsh (+100).
But Headington won the next two games and the match.
Doug Howse (+30) levelled with a 200-162 victory over Mick McCluskey (+90) and then John Williams (+70) edged out Roy Gascoyne (+110) 150-148 in a cliffhanger of a decider.
All four Stephen Reiss Cup quarter-finals and two Atox Cup quarter-finals were postponed and will be replayed as soon as possible.
RESULTS Atox Cup quarter-finals: Thame 0, Ashton 4, Riley A 2, New Club 4.
Div 2: Eynsham 1, Headington Con A 2.
