Oxford City Stars coach Simon Anderson has left the club to take up a position with his home-town club, Swindon Wildcats.

Anderson’s final game in charge was due to be their home clash with Invicta Dynamos on Sunday.

But that match fell victim to the bad weather as the Kent side were unable to travel.

A statement from the club read: “We wish Simon and the Wildcats all the best for the future.

“Simon has worked very hard for Stars and has done a fine job since his appointment as head coach last summer.”

Stars hope to make an announcement on Anderson’s replacement before their next game at Streatham on Sunday.

Club spokesman Andy Hobday said: “The Swindon team is a league higher than us and is a semi-professional outfit.

“As I understand it, it’s a full-time opportunity that Simon really could not turn down.”

Posting on the club’s website, Stars’ manager Gary Dent added: “This wasn’t the first time Simon had been approached to join Wildcats, but this time the offer was too good to refuse.

“I understand his new role at Swindon will involve working for their community programme as well as coaching.

“He has always been honest and open with me and I know he was upset about leaving, particularly as he did not have a chance to say goodbye after the Invicta game was called off.”

Paul Foster steps up as interim head coach for this week’s training and probably the game at Streatham on Sunday.
