TRINA Gulliver has said that regaining the BDO women’s world championship title is a “special” feeling.
The 40-year-old former Oxfordshire ace, defeated Rhian Edwards 2-0 in the final at the Lakeside to win her eighth title and first since 2007.
Gulliver needed just 18 minutes to see off her Welsh challenger and claim the £6,000 winner’s cheque.
She had seen off Oxfordshire county player Deta Hedman in the semi-finals.
“All of the titles are really special, but to win it back again feels great,” Gulliver said.
“I’ve practised really hard and I’ve been missing the trophy but to be back on form feels fantastic. “ Gulliver added: “I’ve done everything right in my preparation this year and not to win would have just been bad luck.
“Rhian is a great player and I needed to put her under pressure straight away.
Wiping away tears, she went on: “My house has been so empty without this trophy, it means so much to get it back.”
Nicknamed the Golden Girl, Gulliver has appeared in every one of the ten BDO women’s finals at the Lakeside and said that she is still hungry for more success.
“I don’t like giving things away and losing the title for the first time hurt,” she said.
“I’m settled in my life and I think that is showing through in my darts.”
“I’ll be here for a while yet trying to win as many titles as I can.”
Gulliver powered in a 180 and clinched the opening set with double two.
She then fought back from losing the first leg of the second set to clinch her first world title since 2007.
