Wootton & Dry Sandford resisted a late comeback by Crowmarsh Gifford to record a 4-2 win in North Berks League Division 1, writes Phil Annets.
In the only match to survive the frosty weather, Wootton took a tenth-minute lead when Tom Srawley’s headed home Jonathan Weir’s corner.
On an excellent pitch, they doubled the lead immediately after half-time when Weir nodded in from Ben Taylor’s headed pass.
When Tom Cooke made it 3-0 following good work by Steve Madge and Taylor, the match seemed all over as a contest.
But Crowmarsh stormed back with a Jon Fanstone strike and Paul Hannigan’s deflected shot to make it 3-2 with three minutes left.
Wootton substitute Richard Chilvers bundled the ball over the line to seal the victory which lifts them to third in the table.
