LUCY Fisk and Julia Froud won the gold medal in the girls’ doubles at the Steventon Under 17 bronze badminton tournament.

After getting through the qualifying rounds, the duo won their semi-final 21-20 in sudden-death.

They met Lauren Harewood (Middlesex) and Sarah Gray (Sussex) in the final, and the Oxford duo raced into an early five-point lead.

They were pegged back to 16-16, before scoring four points in a row to win 21-17.

  • EYNSHAM’S Oliver Richardson, making his debut, helped Oxfordshire 3rd to a 12-3 victory over Northants 3rd in Division 5B of the Inter-Counties Championships.

He narrowly lost his singles match, but was unbeaten in his doubles with Abingdon’s Pete Browning as Oxfordshire eased to victory.

Izzy O’Hagan, 17, from Wantage, won both her ladies’ doubles on her debut with Helen Ashdown and also her mixed rubber with Adrian Brown.

  • OXFORDSHIRE came away from Berkshire with a 13-7 win in the Under 17 Shires League.
