Blue Square Premier leaders Oxford United were holding their own well against League One Yeovil Town in their first-round tie at the Kassam Stadium.
It was goalless at half-time and the U's had gone closest to scoring, with centre back Luke Foster seeing one far-post header saved from Dannie Bulman's cross, and then directing a glancing header over from a free-kick by Adam Murray.
The one save United keeper Ryan Clarke had to make, and it was an easy one, was when Andy Welsh cut in from the left and struck a low shot, but it lacked power.
Just before the break, James Constable delivered a great left-wing cross that Jack Midson met first-time, but keeper Richard Martin was perfectly placed to save.
And Simon Clist then had a powerful drive parried to safety.
